AFM stands for atomic force microscopy. It is a scanning probe microscopy technique that uses a very sharp tip mounted on a flexible cantilever to interact with a sample surface. By monitoring tiny tip-sample forces while the probe scans, an AFM can create nanoscale maps of surface topography and, with suitable modes, measure properties such as adhesion, stiffness, electrical response, or magnetic behavior.
